Olympic Gold Medallist, Duke Kahanamoku, who is also considered the father of international surfing, is represented in a signed lithograph titled Duke and the Boys, by Michael Cassidy. The U.S. Postal Service honored Duke Kahanamoku with a postage stamp and first day cover issue dated August 24, 2002. The portrait on the stamp, an oil painting by Michael J. Deas, was taken from a 1918 photograph selected from the collection of the Bishop Museum in Honolulu. Vintage photographs of favorite surfing locations include c1930 Mecca Beach and c1960 Old Man's Beach in San Onofre, CA. Pan Dulce Beach in Costa Rica is painted in oil on a palm frond by Shelly Read, c1999. Kuhiko style hula is captured by Honolulu photographer Kim Taylor Reese.
A collection of surf boards ranging in lengths from 9-6 to 12-2 with a variety of fins are permanently displayed at the gallery, Custom Surf and Sail.
Harold Reid and Jeff Godinho are long-time, avid surfers. Harold is an avid long-boarder for over 40 years. He has judged several local contests as well as sponsored the 2001 and 2002 Syrus King Memorial Challenge for the Swami's Surfing Association. Harold surfs for Windansea Surf Club in tournament competition in the Legends (over 60) age bracket. Both Harold and Jeff are active in organizations that protect and look after the welfare of our environment, such as clean coastal waters and STOP, Surfers Tired Of Pollution.
He'e Nalu is a familiar Hawaiian term which translates to wave gliding. Hui O He'e Nalu is a common name for a wave riding club.
